From before lockdown with magnificent performances in Australia and Paris-Nice, to great shows at Milano Sanremo, Bretagne Classic and the early stages of the Tour de France, Team Sunweb put the icing on top of the cake today with an incredible stage victory for debutant Marc Hirschi on stage twelve of the Tour de France. The team’s opening week in France saw them active at the front of the race on almost every stage; whether that be with incredible lead outs for Cees Bol from the sprint group, or attacking off the front in the breakaways, including Hirschi’s heroic solo effort on stage nine. All of those close calls culminated today with a phenomenal display of team riding in the finale of today’s stage, with Tiesj Benoot and Søren Kragh Andersen setting up Hirschi for a stunning attack on the steep final climb of the day. Hirschi showed his incredible descending skills and with Kragh Andersen and Nicholas Roche marking the group behind, Hirschi was able to extend his gap and ride solo to the finish - taking an incredible Tour de France stage win for Team Sunweb.
