A spike in Covid cases in Cumbria is not being linked to Appleby Horse Fair, health officials have said.
View email online | | | | | Aug 24, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening Many of us will be planning to head off for a day out over the bank holiday weekend - either to the seaside or perhaps the national park which is practically on our doorstep. Now health chiefs in Cumbria have issued a plea to anyone who is heading to the Lake District to take a test in advance of their trip to ensure they are Covid-free. The request is understandable. The number of cases in that county has doubled in some areas in recent weeks - and a similar story is being told in another tourist hotspot, Cornwall, where a recent music festival is being blamed for a surge in the number of cases. We know that we have seen rises in our own tourist areas on the Lancashire coast - and it is almost inevitable that where large numbers of people gather, there are likely to be more cases. Thankfully, most of us are fully vaccinated and so the chances of us being seriously ill are slim but even so, catching Covid is something none of us wants. So while asking us to have a test before we travel may seem overkill, perhaps it is just sensible.
