Event Changes Likely as Paris 2024 Moves to Nine-Day Schedule of Finals

For the first time, Olympic swimming will take place over nine days of finals at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. The organizing committee for the Games recently released the full competition schedule by sport for the Games, which will take place from Wednesday, July 24 through Sunday, August 11, 2024. As usual, swimming will be held over the first week of the Games beginning the day after the Opening Ceremony, but there will be one additional day of finals.

The Missed Turn: South African 12-Year-Old WR Setter Karen Muir Was Overlooked Star

The Missed Turn highlights athletes from the past who did not receive their proper recognition, due to no fault of their own. In this second installment of the series, we examine the career of South African backstroker Karen Muir.

Mexico City should have been her stage. It should have offered her the opportunity for Olympic glory. It should have been the site of Karen Muir’s greatest accomplishment, the one accolade missing from the South African’s Hall of Fame career. Alas, the backstroke sensation could do nothing more than watch.

Despite Doping Ban, Conor Dwyer to Be Inducted Into University of Florida Hall of Fame

Two-time U.S. Olympian and former Gators star Conor Dwyer will be inducted into the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame, the school announced last week. Dwyer and six other athletes, including active NFL player Joe Haden and active Major League Baseball catcher Mike Zunino, will be recognized on Friday, October 7, the night before Florida hosts the University of Missouri in football.

The decision to induct Dwyer is debatable, given the doping penalty levied against him late in his career.

Adam Peaty Wins 100 Breaststroke In 58.58 At British Championships & Sets Sights On Paris 2024

There was a combination of relief and encouragement for Adam Peaty as he won the 100m breaststroke at the British Championships in 58.58 in only his fourth two-length race since claiming the Olympic title in Tokyo.

The six-day meet at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, doubles as the trials for the World Championships in Budapest in June with the eight-time world champion preselected following his exploits in Japan where he became the first British swimmer to retain an Olympic title.

Jhennifer Conceicao Trims Her 100 Breast Record to Start Trofeu Brasil

Jhennifer Conceicao trimmed a hundredth of a second off her Brazilian record in the women’s 100 breaststroke to start the Trofeu Brasil Championships in Rio this week.

The meet will run from Monday through Saturday and serve as a primary selection meet for the World Championships. Monday’s first night delivered five FINA A cuts, part of the hybrid selection model.
