TRUMP’S MIAMI RESORT WILL NO LONGER HOST G-7 SUMMIT: President Trump will no longer host the G-7 Summit in 2020 at his resort in Miami, following criticism that he selected the venue to personally benefit his private businesses. Trump tweeted on Saturday that he changed his mind and that the administration will now consider Camp David as the host venue. Vox: “Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) executive director Noah Bookbinder said in a statement Saturday that Trump’s decision to plan the G7 at his own property was ‘outrageous, corrupt and a constitutional violation.’ … Thursday, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney announced the choice of Trump National Doral in Miami as the site of the annual summit, which gathers the leaders of seven of the most economically powerful countries on earth. Mulvaney defended the decision by saying the resort was ‘far and away the best physical facility for this meeting.’”

2. NEW ORLEANS OFFICIALS DEMOLISH CRANES AFTER HARD ROCK HOTEL COLLAPSE: City officials in New Orleans on Sunday oversaw explosions of two cranes that hovered over the site of the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel. The cranes were considered unstable after being damaged when the half-completed hotel collapsed and killed three workers on October 12. Washington Post: “A controlled demolition was initially set to take place Friday, but officials decided to hold off after crews inspecting the structures realized that bringing them down would be more hazardous than they originally believed. After tweaking their plans, crews could begin the operation as early as noon Sunday, officials said. … Some of the people injured in the collapse on Friday filed a lawsuit against the companies involved in the hotel construction. The lawsuit accuses the companies of negligence, saying they used inferior construction materials that were not strong enough to support the weight of the upper floors.”

3. CHICK-FIL-A TO LEAVE U.K. AFTER PROTESTS FROM L.G.B.T.Q. ADVOCATES: Fast food company Chick-fil-A will close its only shop in the United Kingdom after six months, following protests from L.G.B.T.Q.-rights advocates. The brand, which has donated to Christian organizations that oppose same-sex marriage, opened at a shopping mall in Reading earlier this month. Advertising Age: “The local gay-rights group Reading Pride is continued with its ‘Get the Chick Out’ protest outside the mall planned for October 19 even after hearing that the lease will not be renewed, saying it wants to advise potential diners where they should spend their money. … Chick-fil-A was testing the waters in the U.K. after opening its first Canadian location in Toronto in September, where it also faced protests from groups that support gay rights.”

CHICAGO: Hubbard Inn in River North will reopen October 25 following a months-long renovation. The renovation includes a second-floor cocktail lounge, “Blue Violet at Hubbard Inn,” and a third-floor theater-inspired event space. The three-floor venue can host events for groups of 10 to 600 guests.

LAS VEGAS: The X Pot, an Asian fusion restaurant from Haibin Yang and David Zhao, will open inside the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian in winter 2020. The restaurant will incorporate high-tech elements, such as robot servers and interactive light shows on plates.

LOS ANGELES: The Revolt Summit, a hip-hop culture and networking event from P. Diddy and his company Revolt TV, will have its second event October 25-27 at Magic Box. The event will have appearances by Lizzo, Issa Rae, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and more. The series is produced by Superfly.

NEW YORK: Moonrise Izakaya has opened on the Upper West Side. Owned by Jacob Poznak, the Japanese restaurant seats 42 guests and offers a menu of shareable and large format izakaya dishes.
