In "SUTURE", 23 artists explore the unifying potential of photography as a medium – its limits, capabilities and opportunities as a means of expression in a changing world. Despite the diversity of their positions, they are connected by a thread of critical thinking and a persistent reluctance to accept the world as it is. For the members of Broomberg’s and Chanarin’s class, photography and art serve as mouthpiece, remedy and suture. The exhibition also includes a digital research project initiated in 2020 by the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation and the Goethe-Institut. In the context of the pandemic, the students explored the potential of photography in digital space and the resulting consequences for artists, viewers and society. Both presentations will be opened at the Goethe-Institut Paris on 11 November 2021 at 6pm. | | | | | | Marc Botschen: Piece of Cake, 2020 - 2021 © Marc Botschen | | | | With the exhibition series "La jeune photographie allemande", the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation and the Goethe-Institut Paris have been promoting young photographers at German universities since 2018, showing current trends in photography. Each year, students from a selected university or academy are invited to present their work in an exhibition at the Goethe-Institut Paris. After an exhibition by Martin Liebscher’s photography class at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach (HfG) in 2018 and one by Heidi Specker’s Master’s students at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) Leipzig in 2019, Adam Broomberg’s and Oliver Chanarin’s photography class at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK) will follow this year. The participating artists are: Marc Botschen, Charlie Spiegelfeld, Ann-Sophie Krüger, Kristina Savutsina, CJ Chandler, Sebastian Stern, Alexander Kadow, Esteban Perez, Georg Kußmann, Julian Slagman, Lena Kunz, Razan Sabbagh, Manda Steinhauser, Max Eicke, Luise Hamm, Malin Dorn, Aras Gökten, Janosch Boerckel, Luísa Telles, Eli Singalovski, Sanja Zdrnja, Matthias Rebaschus und Max Schwarzmann. | | | | | | Luisa Telles: Uproot, 2021 © Luisa Telles | | | | The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation is a Frankfurt-based non-profit organisation. The foundation activities focus on collecting, exhibiting and promoting contemporary photography. Deutsche Börse began to build up its collection of contemporary photography in 1999. The Art Collection Deutsche Börse now comprises more than 2,200 works by over 140 artists from 32 nations. The collection and a changing exhibition programme are open to the public. Other focal points include supporting exhibition projects of international museums and institutions, and the expansion of platforms for academic discussion about the medium. More Information: www.deutscheboersephotographyfoundation.org The Goethe-Institut Paris focuses on the presentation of photographic positions from Germany. The aim is to offer a first platform to German artists or artists living in Germany who are usually still little known in France. The aim is to connect German and French artists, partner institutions and galleries. In particular, the Institute focuses on expanding the medium of photography and demonstrating innovative, experimental, and process-oriented approaches. In addition to classical photographic works, exhibitions show video works, sculptures, and installations. At the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK), students individually choose a focus and thus develop their individual artistic profile. At the artistic-scientific university, international exchange is of particular importance. Broomberg’s and Chanarin's photography class consists of 23 Bachelor's and Master's students. They all deal with photography in the broadest sense of the medium and work with film, contemporary media, sound, text, and other materials. What they have in common, however, is to question photography itself and address the idea behind it in its increasingly diverse forms. | | | | | | Max Eicke: To strike a pose is to pose a threat, 2021 © Max Eicke | | | | unsubscribe here Newsletter was sent to [email protected] © 3 Nov 2021 photo-index UG (haftungsbeschränkt) Ziegelstr. 29 .
