THIS SATURDAY! Nature Journaling Workshop: Saturday 19 September

Spend the morning with Angela Rossen artist & biodiversity educator and learn how to start your own nature journal. In this workshop you will learn how to observe and record living things in your environment and discover the beauty of nature. All materials supplied, no skills needed. Adults and & teens event.

9am-12pm Manning Park. $10.

Would you like to know more about the reptiles living locally and how you can help them? Do you know how to be snake safe? Join us and discover everything there is to know about reptiles and meet some close up!
Nocturnal 'Night' Stalk Wednesday 7 Oct 6.30-8.30pm
What animals might you encounter after dark in the Beeliar Wetlands? Join us for a night stalk to help conserve biodiversity. Learn about the special adaptations there animals have to come alive at night. Don't forget your torch!
Suitable for children aged 5-12 years.

Adult supervision required at all times. Please wear closed in shoes, long pants, hat and don't forget your water bottle! No refreshments will be provided these holidays.

Zero waste, Zero Emissions, and 100% renewable energy

Cockburn is the first council in WA to set a ‘zero waste target’ following the adoption of its Climate Change Strategy 2020-2030.

The strategy outlines a resilience road-map with bold, aspirational targets for net zero emissions, zero waste to landfill and a transition to 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2030. The Climate Change Strategy is the result of direction from the Cockburn community during consultation in May that asked locals and businesses to share their vision for a sustainable and climate resilient future.

ClimateClever Partnership
The City recently joined ClimateClever to assist schools assess and reduce their carbon footprint. We look forward to exploring the great projects for our community throughout this partnership.

Turtle Trackers

The 2020 tracking program at Bibra Lake has begun! The City thanks all the volunteers who have signed up to assist in long necked turtle conservation and protect nests from predation. Keep an eye out for trackers whilst at Bibra Lake and cheer them on!
We have been overwhelmed with interest so cannot train any more volunteers. However, join our mailing list to keep informed and if any further volunteering opportunities become available.
Our local turtle population is vulnerable and needs our help due to the threat from roads and increased predation in the urban environment.
Keep an eye out for turtle hatchlings emerging from nests all around Cockburn. If you see one give it a little helping hand to the nearby lake so it doesn't become dinner.
Adult turtles will soon be on the move so drive carefully around lakes such as Bibra Lake, Yangebup Lake and Market Garden Swamp. If you come across a turtle on the road, stay safe and assist the turtle off the road in the direction it was heading.
If you find an injured turtle please take it to Native ARC immediately.

Plastic Free Tree Planting

The City has gone plastic free along our coastline this year installing ~11,000 seedlings with various styles of biodegradable or corflute tree guards in our revegetation program. The four separate revegetation areas are located within the dunes at CY O’Connor Beach between McTaggart Road to the south, and Catherine’s Point to the North.

The trial will hopefully provide guidance for an affordable alternative and lead to a more sustainable plastic free future.
