How to have a Sustainable Easter Easter can often mean large amounts of food and packaging waste, leaving bins overflowing and unwanted waste. This Easter, don’t be too egg-sessive and instead try do what you can to avoid waste from occurring in the first place. This saves you money and can allow for a more creative holiday. Refuse – Don’t buy the throw-away single use items and instead try to make your own. What could be more magical than baking hot cross buns together, or piping molten chocolate into an egg-shaped mould? Reduce - When buying festive food, try to reduce the amount of packaging. Plan meals in advance and enjoy yummy leftovers to avoid food waste. Reuse – Look for products made from recycled packaging and seek out second-hand items such as decorations. Recycle – Glass, hard plastic, metal cans, paper and cardboard (larger than the palm of your hand) can all be recycled, so please ensure these go in the yellow bin. Soft plastic (such as hot cross bun packaging) can be recycled if returned to Coles or Woolworths Redcycle bins. Crumple foil into a (golf) ball size and recycle. |
