Sustainability is hottest topic at Amsterdam Investor Forum 2020…

Sustainable investing proved to be the biggest structural investment theme for 2020 and beyond at the ninth Amsterdam Investor Forum (AIF), which was held at the headquarters of ABN AMRO Clearing on 5 February.

This Hedgeweek Special Report summarises current ESG thinking, which was voted the hottest topic at the forum by 45 per cent of attendees, ahead of US politics and the forthcoming presidential election (20 per cent), plus a host of other issues, including whether 2020 will bring more black swan events, where alpha may be found in the coming year, and how active managers can rise to the challenge of uncovering returns in less crowded areas of the market.

Investors remain mostly upbeat on hedge funds, despite feeling slightly underwhelmed by performance, with some 60 per cent of delegates at the forum saying they would increase their hedge fund allocations in 2020. And given the current turmoil in global markets, the rest of the year could provide managers with the opportunity to prove their mettle and deliver stronger rates of return…
