• U.S. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine announced in a Tuesday floor speech that she will vote to acquit President Donald Trump on two impeachment charges, though the Republican said it was “wrong” for the president to call on Ukraine to investigate a political rival. 
  
  Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Angus King of Maine said Tuesday afternoon that he will vote to convict President Donald Trump on both articles of impeachment, saying the president had abused the power of his office and warning that failing to hold him accountable created a concerning precedent.

• The big February sale at Colburn Shoe Store in downtown Belfast brings in hundreds of customers annually from miles around to get half-price shoes. Some brave the lines and the cold weather because they enjoy the thrill of scoring a good deal. But others do it because they can’t otherwise afford to pay full price.

• The woman, identified in court documents as Regina Hall Long, 49, is one of four people shot Monday morning, allegedly by Thomas Bonfanti, 63, of Northfield in a series of shootings that took place at three houses in two towns. The other three victims all died as a result of their injuries.

• Millions of students across the U.S. this school year are likely to experience school lockdowns, during which their movement around and in and out of school buildings is limited because of a threat to safety. In Machias, students encountered two lockdowns in two school days.

• Shane Rogers has resigned after three seasons as the head football coach at Hampden Academy. The former standout player and assistant coach at Husson University in Bangor cited family reasons and the need to spend more time back in his home state of Connecticut for his decision.

• Two charges filed against Peter Vigue, chairman of the board at Pittsfield-based Cianbro Corp., stemming from an incident with a small cannon at a Maine Maritime Academy football game last fall have been dismissed.
