Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Our nation has watched the southern border crumble as the Biden administration’s open border policy created a surge of border crossings. In Eagle Pass, Texas, approximately 19,000 crossed in 10 days, overwhelming the city of only 30,000. Twice this week, daily border crossings reached over 11,000, breaking records for border crossings in a single day. Last week, Border Patrol Union head Brandon Judd’s announcement that over 17,000 illegal immigrants had been arrested in just 48 hours came as U.S. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens warned smugglers designed the mass migrant crossings to distract from the fentanyl and violent criminals they are sending into the U.S. While I have fought to end President Biden’s open border policy, and championed my Securing Our Border Act, the Biden administration continues to stand by its broken system. Now, the administration is unable to account for 85,000 children who have crossed the southern border and are at risk for sex trafficking and abuse. Additionally, just this fiscal year, Border Patrol has seized enough fentanyl to wipe out the entire U.S. population. Faced with an onslaught of illegal immigrants every day, Border Patrol has borne the weight of President Biden’s open border policy. Unfortunately, as the government heads towards a shutdown, our agents are at risk of not being paid for the work they do to keep our country safe. This week, I introduced the Keep Our Border Agents Paid Act, which would ensure Customs and Border Protection agents and contractors continue to be paid. Now more than ever, we need our agents amid the chaos of the border surge. The least we can do is ensure these brave men and women are paid for their invaluable work and continued sacrifice. I'll never stop fighting to secure our border and support the brave men and women who work tirelessly to protect our country. Sincerely, |
