Good morning, everybody. This week I'm highlighting a choice quote from social media. I'll do that from time to time—share the things that really speak to me, the ones that I think everyone should read. And at the end I'd be curious to know what you think. Today's quote comes from Erwan Le Corre, creator of MovNat—the natural human movement fitness system—via Twitter, where user Justin Owings plucked a great quote out of Erwan's book: "As kids, we move a lot without thinking, but as grown-ups we think too much without moving." There are so many levels to this.... First, the obvious one. Kids move: They play, they run, they jump, they crawl, they spin, they climb. They literally cannot stop moving until we manage to grind it out of them. Which is a disaster and a tragedy really. Meanwhile, adults do the opposite. We sit around all the time. We go to the office and plunk down on our behinds. We barely find the time to go to a gym in order to walk on a glorified hamster wheel and lift some heavy pieces of metal once or twice. But we adults also simply spend too much time in our heads thinking and planning and never acting. And in doing so—in thinking without acting—we're actually less cerebral. The person who thinks and acts is more in tune with their brain than the person who thinks and over-thinks and ruminates and over-ruminates. Ours is a neuromuscular system. Brain and body are one. You can't separate them. Can't do it physically, can't do it metaphorically. They are one. Because "moving" isn't just about physical activity, about exercise. It's also about moving through life. It's about making the moves you need to make the changes you want to make—the changes you've been thinking about. Thinking is important. It's one of the best features of being human. But it's also easy, cheap, and insufficient. You need to move, too. Move your body and move your spirit toward your goal. But there's a final level, too, and it speaks to the importance of moving without thinking in adults. Moving without thinking has many positive manifestations we can take advantage of. Movement is so ingrained in your body that you do it intuitively. You go for long walks as a habit. You park in the far lot and take the stairs rather than the elevator not as a conscious decision but as an instinct. You move. It's just what you do. Sometimes, acting without thinking at all is the necessary first step towards changing your situation in life. If I thought too hard about what I was risking when I started Primal Nutrition, I wouldn't have acted. But because I just took the plunge, it worked. It wouldn't have otherwise. Anyway, it's always fun to really dissect a quote that hits you hard. I find that whenever a line resonates with me, it's worth plumbing the depths and figuring out why and how it does. What does that Le Corre quote make you think and feel? Do you have other quotes that have been hitting you hard as of late? Let me know in Friday's Weekly Link Love comment section. Thanks for reading today, and enjoy your Sunday. Best, |
