| Editor's Picks The American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and Manatt Health released the first set of results in a series of studies examining state responses to opioid abuse; these particular results focused on the efforts made in Pennsylvania. The results reveal that access to evidence-based treatment for substance abuse is increasing within the state. This is likely due, in part, to a recent agreement between the governor’s administration and several insurers in that state. This agreement erased all requirements for prior authorization for the use of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for those suffering from substance use disorders. The program director will value the coordinator as a critical administrative team member once he or she sees the coordinator as a professional who has an in-depth understanding of accreditation requirements, GME concepts, and management needs of the training program. There are several actions that coordinators can take to build a respectful and supportive working relationship with the program director. International medical graduates (IMG) are integral to GME and the U.S. healthcare system as a whole. IMGs comprise nearly 25% of the trainees participating in residency/fellowship programs and about 25% of the active physician (non-trainee) workforce. Keeping track of resident attendance at didactic conferences used to be a nightmare for Sharon Ezzo, MA, C-TAGME, program manager for the adult psychiatry residency program at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
