Good morning and thanks for starting your week with us. Here are some of the day's top headlines. Power grab: The political power of the mayor of New Orleans is under attack. As Gov. Jeff Landry threatens to intervene in the city's operations, state lawmakers are proposing a series of bills that would dilute the authority of Mayor LaToya Cantrell, and any future New Orleans mayor, over boards that control public housing, regional transit, emergency dispatch and development. Sophie Kasakove has more on what political observers are calling the broadest affront to mayoral power in New Orleans in decades. Struggling seniors: Older adults in New Orleans are having a hard time paying their way through retirement. That's according to a new report from the New Orleans Council on Aging, which found that thousands of Orleans Parish seniors are food insecure or living in poverty. Desiree Stennett took a look at the report and what it means for the city's aging population. Infant mortality: With newborn babies and their moms dying in Louisiana at some of the highest rates in the developed world, lawmakers are considering bills that would expand health care services to pregnant women and newborns while also increasing payment to their providers. Andrea Gallo has the details on the slate of bills at the Legislature aimed at easing the state's infant mortality problem.
