Before we head into the holiday weekend, let's take a whirl through some of our latest headlines.

Navy mom killed by stray bullets

Michelle Jordan Cummings, a Southern U alumna, was fatally struck by stray bullets while up in Annapolis, Maryland, where her son was recently accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy.

"You hear about things on the news, about these things happening," her little brother said, "and you never think it will affect you."

Reporter Jacqueline DeRobertis has the story.

Rain check

Even for the wettest state in the union, it's been a soggy year in Baton Rouge.

"It's crazy how much rain has fallen," a meteorologist told us.

Reporter Youssef Rddad tell us how unusual this year has been so far, weather-wise.
