Judge halts United's plan for certain unvaccinated workers
(James D. Morgan/Getty Images)
US District Judge Mark Pittman has issued a temporary restraining order pausing United Airlines' plan for employees to be placed on unpaid leave if they are seeking exemptions from the company's COVID-19 vaccination requirement. Pittman, noting that he was not ruling on the merits of a lawsuit over the vaccine mandate, said the intention is to "maintain the status quo while the court holds an evidentiary hearing."

I wanted to cheer when I read what Megan Hustad wrote about leadership in today’s HR Leader story: “...the sooner we stop thinking of leadership in lofty but ultimately vacuous terms, the better off we’ll be.”

Good gracious, yes!

Being a good leader is hard. When I stepped into management, and sought out resources about leadership, I was disappointed to see that most of them were just a litany of flimsy platitudes and catch phrases. These were not helpful. I needed practical direction.

Hustad does it here by outlining the qualities and habits of good leaders in clear, simple language. Good leaders are patient, accessible and aware. They know how to do the job their team has to do. They praise often. They look for opportunities to help their team members advance. They are marked by maturity and wisdom.

This is practical real-world guidance. I’ll be using this to keep me accountable as I continue to grow in this management role.

How can I serve you better with this brief? Let me know! And if you enjoy this brief, tell others so they can benefit also.
