Stewardship Journey Pays Dividends For Minnesota Farmers

Matt Alford and Sam Peterson’s Minnesota farms may be 100 miles apart, but when it comes to conservation and stewardship, they might as well live next door. Both share a common mind regarding their desire to explore and embrace new ideas, improve their farm's environmental footprint and business profile, and network with other farmers.

Carbon credit markets are being touted by some as a promising method for incentivizing farmers to adopt farming practices that sequester carbon while giving them an additional income stream.

Following the release of its joint Milk Crisis Plan with the International Dairy Foods Association earlier this week, the National Milk Producers Federation began a social-media campaign geared toward dairy farmers and their allies, #dairyneverstops. It underscores the urgency in dairy country for a federal plan that can mitigate catastrophic economic damage that is expected to worsen for producers over the next several months, as the coronavirus-created recession bites more deeply, according to an AgDaily article.

The barn is full and hogs are ready to be shipped, says Mike Haag, a hog producer in Emington, Ill. To date, his packing plant isn't asking him to decrease the number of hogs in each truck, nor has the plant stopped taking in loads.
