Before shuttering in April, International Paper’s Red River mill in Natchitoches Parish purchased 1.6 million tons of pulpwood per year, equivalent to about 250 truckloads a day. Now, sources say, there’s nowhere for that type of forestry product to go, and the result is an industry that's scrambling to adjust. “It’s put the whole logging industry in chaos,” said Bradley McDowell, whose company, Pineland Contracting, based in Jena, sold pulpwood to the mill and is down about $38,000 a month in sales.
