State lawmakers question authority to spend 3M dollars
At a House Ways and Means Committee hearing Monday at the Capitol, lawmakers questioned whether two state agencies have the authority to spend a $850 million lawsuit settlement between 3M and the state and asked whether legislative action is needed.
Son's alleged school threat leads to charges for Vadnais Heights man
A months-long debate over free speech in the Edina Public Schools district ended with the settlement of a lawsuit Thursday night. Trooper shoots woman after crash-related incident on I-94 in NW Minn.
What began Monday morning as a police response to a crash on Interstate 94 in northwestern Minnesota ended with a State Patrol trooper shooting and wounding a woman who then fled into a nearby field, authorities say.

Former Guthrie carpenter files discrimination charges
A former employee of the Guthrie has filed discrimination charges against the Minneapolis theater company. Molly Diers worked in the Guthrie's scene shop for 13 years. She and another carpenter quit in January.
Senators want alerts when gun buyers fail background checks
A bipartisan group of U.S. senators want state law enforcement to be alerted when someone who isn't allowed to buy a gun tries to purchase one. U.S. Sens. Pat Toomey and Chris Coons on Monday said they will introduce a bill that requires federal authorities to notify states when a felon or a fugitive attempts to buy a firearm but fails the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
