Welcome back to another edition of Saturday Science!
Did you know that even a single piece of litter can pollute a lake or stream by spreading through the water and seeping into the ground?
Our Water Pollution Demonstration project uses a few simple household materials to show how this happens. |

Set up an egg carton, fill it with water, and introduce “pollution” (i.e., food coloring and flax seeds).
Watch as the “contamination” flows from cup to cup and seeps out through the bottom of the carton, mimicking how pollutants spread in bodies of water and get into the ground.
Meanwhile, challenge your kids to think about ways we can protect our water sources and keep pollution at bay. |
