PAFA Offers Undergraduate and Graduate Fine Arts Programs in a Welcoming, Collaborative Artistic CommunityAs the first museum and school of the fine arts in the United States, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts celebrates the transformative power of art and art-making. PAFA educates the next generation of artists from around the world to be innovative makers and critical thinkers, with a deep understanding of traditions and the ability to challenge conventions.Undergraduate programsPAFA offers two undergraduate degree programs, combining in-depth study in a chosen concentration and a liberal arts education. The PAFA BFA program pairs a creatively focused liberal arts education with demanding studio art training. PAFA and the University of Pennsylvania offer a unique BFA program that combines PAFA’s fine arts training and flexible liberal arts courses through UPenn.Undergraduates can pursue studio training in one of six disciplines: drawing, illustration, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and PAFA’s newest course of study, animation (contact our admissions team for information on this new concentration). Master of Fine ArtsThe MFA program at PAFA is an interdisciplinary, two-year program. Students are not divided by discipline or area of study, but instead are encouraged to experiment and further discover their own voice in various media. At the core of the MFA program is an individual’s studio practice, along with seminars in theory, contemporary art, writing, and professional practices. Students are encouraged to be independent, self-motivated, and open to the new possibilities and ideas that arise through the course of making. Through experimentation, one-on-one discussion with critics, and group critiques, students develop their work and ideas into a sustainable, thoughtful artistic practice. Can you picture yourself at PAFA?
