 | 7 Ways to Spark Your Creativity this Summer | You may associate summer with lazy afternoons in a hammock or a beach chair, but summer is also a great time to spark your creativity with new activities and experiences. Here are 7 ways to get your creative juices flowing!
1. Travel to a place you've never been. All the new views, flavors, and faces can change your perceptions and stimulate your brain in surprising ways. Share your destinations on Facebook!
2. Listen to a different genre of music. Unfamiliar rhythms and rhymes can inspire fresh ideas and send your thoughts in unexpected directions. We tried jazz and it really had our toes tapping!
3. Volunteer. You'll meet new people, explore new roles, and maybe even learn a new skill or two. Kalmbach Publishing Co., the Bead&Button Show's parent company, volunteered at Ronald McDonald House this month. It just feels good to give back to the community.
4. Create something in a new medium. Paint, scrapbook, crochet, bake! It's all creative! We created some Fat Quarter "cupcakes" for Bead&Button Show Event Specialist, Jane Bremmer. It was fun and unique, and allowed us to flex different artistic muscles.
5. See a play at your local theater. It's convenient, budget friendly, and an all‑around great night out in your own backyard. You never know how something you see onstage might creep into your work later.
6. Pick berries or peaches at a local farm. Sometimes, just being outside for a day can be enough to push you in a new creative direction. And if you pick enough to bake a pie later, it's just bonus creative time! (See #4 above.)
7. Play a board game. Board gaming is hot right now, and from fast‑to‑play family games to creative drawing games and cooperative games, there's a game out there for everyone. Some of our staff favorites are Clue, Ticket to Ride, Scrabble — and of course Sheepshead, a card game staple of many at Wisconsin supper clubs! |
