I was privileged enough to get a sneak preview of a wholly produced South African movie:-
“Beyond the River”
It’s basically (how we love to use that word here in SA) about a white guy and a black guy who get together to paddle the Duzi. It’s based on true events.

The National Education Collaboration Trust (NECT) started a journey in July 2013 aimed at contributing to improving the quality of education in line with the National Development Plan. Three and a half years into the implementation of the programme, several systemic improvement models have been designed and tested. Those that have shown positive impact are being replicated by districts and schools or up-scaled by the Department of Basic Education (DBE).
The start of 2017 has seen the NECT footprint increasing to coverage of close to 30% of the schooling system. We are encouraged that this is the first time that a joint effort between private sector funders and government has reached this magnitude.

Green Jobs for Mahogany Ridge community
Project Manager Thulani Ngidi of Wildlands, an environmental non-profit organisation, managed a group of six members of Durban’s Mahogany Ridge community who cleared alien vegetation and planted indigenous trees in the area over the last two years. This green employment initiative was made possible thanks to a R100 000 pledge to Wildlands from Paarl Media. PHOTO CREDIT: Em Gatland
Paarl Media, the print division of Novus Holdings, pledged R100 000 to Wildlands, to support their “Greening your Future” programme, and help grow the local green economy within the Mahogany Ridge community.
The team of six helped ensure the Mahogany Ridge riverine ecosystem was kept in an optimal state to prevent flooding and curtail climate change. They were employed in full-time positions dedicated to restoration and conservation, focused on clearing alien vegetation and landscaping the cleared areas by planting suitable indigenous trees.

Stokvels: According to the National Stokvel Association of South Africa (NASASA), there are more than 800,000 stokvel groups (savings or investment groups) in South Africa with around 11.5 million members. NASASA estimates that total savings amount to R49 billion annually. (www.Eighty20.co.za)
