Your Thursday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Jan 6, 2022 | | | | | | Good evening, Many of us will be old enough to remember the TV and billboard advertising campaigns of the 80s and 90s imploring people not to drink and drive. The shocking images and heartbreaking stories they told were enough to make most of us understand why this was a complete no-no. Before that time, many drivers would think nothing of popping out for a few pints and then driving home, often the worse for wear. Afterwards, it seemed we had turned the corner on drink-driving in much the same way as we did on wearing seat belts following the ‘clunk-click every trip’ campaign. Sadly, though, the Christmas drink-drive figures released today for Lancashire reveal another story. More than 200 people were arrested in December for being over the legal limit to drive. Some, but not all, of those will be people caught out the morning after having got a taxi home from a night out and thinking the alcohol would be out of their system. These figures prove we still have some way to go to make this completely unacceptable to all. Until next time, take care, Gillian Contact me at [email protected] | |
