For the English public, the wearing of face coverings has been optional in most situations throughout the coronavirus pandemic, but as of today, wearing a mask is considered essential in shops.
View email online | | | | | Jul 24, 2020 | | | | | | Good evening, It’s clearly early days but reports from Lancashire’s shops today seem to show that the majority of people have been adhering to the new rules about wearing face coverings, albeit occasionally with bad grace. Our reporters have been out and about and reported back a relatively positive picture so far, despite national reports that chaos is the order of the day. Hopefully shoppers here in Lancashire are taking the precautions with the practical stoicism we are known for, even if the different approaches being taken by different businesses does lead to a little confusion day to day. It feels like a sensible move, particularly with our near-neighbour Blackburn being named an ‘area of intervention’ with a delay on the reopening of pools, leisure centres and gyms until the local council is confident virus levels are under control. Here in central Lancashire we are in a comparatively better Covid-19 position, albeit far from out of the woods just yet. Normal is far from being back just yet and there is no ‘new normal’ - just strange and difficult times.
