Message from the CEO
I am proud to present you with the 2017 edition of SNV’s annual magazine Connect.
Reflecting back on 2017, many people in this world are living in better conditions, and we hope it will continue to improve with the sustainable development goals propelling these efforts forward. However, we still cannot turn a blind eye to the 750 million people living in extreme poverty, 900 million practicing open defecation, and the 1.2 billion who do not have access to electricity.
Over the years, SNV has been responding to these issues through the implementation of projects in more than 30 countries. We have been working closely with donors, governments, businesses, local development partners, and knowledge institutes to increase capacity, knowledge and innovation in Agriculture, WASH and Energy; and effectively improve the lives of those communities who need it most.

Ensuring that we continue to drive innovative ideas into policy, action and results, in 2018, we want to reach more people and continue improving our practice and knowledge, so that we deliver our development at a larger scale.
In Connect 2017, we provide an overview of some of our approaches for scaling-up programmes, and talk to experts in the field about their thoughts on the focus sectors. With article contributions from Koos Richelle (Chairman SNV), Laurence Haddad (from Gain), Koen Peters (from GOGLA), and Reina Buijs (Deputy Director-General for International Cooperation Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Netherlands), here are some great stories from 2017.

I thank you for your support over the last year and I hope you enjoy reading this issue of Connect!

Sincerely,
Allert van den Ham,
SNV Chief Executive Officer
