July 2017

Our 2016 Annual Report is now out. 2016 was a momentous year for SNV. Not only did our 300+ programmes impact the lives of 6.1 million people in over 30 countries, but for the first time in 50 years we implemented our programmes entirely based on business revenues, acquired on a project basis, without core subsidy from the Dutch government. We could not have achieved these results without the efforts made by our committed and professional global staff and the generous support of our donors.

By investing in climate smart agriculture and clean energy technology, and attracting young people into these enterprises, there is opportunity to address the multiple challenges of youth unemployment, poverty and climate change. Learn more about our vision to integrate our approaches to youth employment and climate change.

NEW: Sustainable oil palm farming knowledge portal

In collaboration with Akvo, we recently launched a knowledge portal to support oil palm smallholders in transitioning to sustainable production systems. The portal contains information and guidance on planting material; harvesting, grading and transport; plantation maintenance; fertiliser application; pests and diseases. Explore the portal.

Join us in bridging the energy access divide

Around 1.1 billion people do not have access to electricity, and the hardest hit communities are in sub-Saharan Africa. Solar energy can help meet the energy needs of those who do not have access to on-grid sources. This is why we recently launched a Call to Action, inviting stakeholders to join forces in providing energy access to 5 million households, in 5 African countries within a 5 year period. Join us!

€59 million grant to get closer to sustainable WASH 4 all

The WASH SDG Consortium (WASH Alliance International, Plan Netherlands and SNV) have been granted €59 million by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deliver sustainable access to improved sanitation and hygiene and safe drinking water for 2 million and 450,000 people respectively, over a 5-year period. Find out more.

Working towards SDG3: healthy lives & well-being 4 all

780 million people lack access to an improved water source and 2.5 billion people do not have adequate sanitation facilities. Lack of access to clean cooking solutions and the resulting exposure to household air pollution causes respiratory illnesses and about 4.3 million deaths each year. Let's say 'NO' to preventable diseases. Let's build a world in which everyone has the chance to live a healthy life. The clock is ticking. Read more.

Twitter storm for gender equality

During the first week of UN's 2017 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development we joined forces with 17 members of the Funding Leadership and Opportunities for Women (FLOW) community to organise a Twitter storm aimed at elevating the urgency of – and accelerating progress toward SDG5. Evidence and promising approaches from our EOWE project were shared, among others. Read the project updates.
