Read This Canadian Author Taras Grescoe's Shanghai Grand Canadian author Taras Grescoe's new book Shanghai Grand: Forbidden Love and International Intrigue in a Doomed World tells the tales of pre-WWII Shanghai through the eyes of American journalist and writer Emily “Mickey” Hahn, who wrote 54 books and hundreds of articles, especially for The New Yorker. Back then, our city attracted big personalities, characters, crooks, hustlers, and celebrities from all over the world, making this book not just a page-turning story of Hahn's love life, but also a portrait of the extremely dynamic culture during this short period in Shanghai's history. Currently available only in hardcover format. |

Dude's production keeps getting better and better. If you're looking for other places to take your children in Shanghai, well, he's reviewed 63 of them on his YouTube channel. |

Deals Three Recommended Happy Hours Here's some happy hours to get you through this rainy week. Shanghai's numb one queer women's bar Roxie does a happy hour 6-9pm, Sunday to Thursday, where you can get buy-one-get-one free on white wine, red wine, house pour mixes and shots. Bull & Claw's happy hour runs a bit earlier, from 3-7pm, offering 25rmb glasses of wine, lager, and gin & tonics. Lastly, new club Elevator does buy-one-get-one on select cocktails and draft beer from opening to 11pm every day. Nice one. |
