“Know him, know us.” -- Ken Burns
Earlier this week I was on the Glenn Beck radio show to talk about my new book. He has a following of over 10 million people on 300 radio stations.
Glenn introduced me by saying, "The name of the new book by my old friend Mark Skousen is 'The Greatest American,' and it’s all about Ben Franklin. If you don’t know anything about Ben Franklin, you will fall in love with him. You will absolutely fall in love with him. He was fantastic.”
Before my appearance, I commented to Glenn that the latest Gallup Poll shows pride in America is at its lowest level in years, due to the divisiveness in the country and abroad.
I have an idea on how to make America proud again.
Tomorrow we celebrate the 249th anniversary of our nation’s founding. I’m reminded of what Franklin said about the 4th of July, which was already a day of celebration in his day:
“When I read in all the papers of the extravagant rejoices every 4th of July, the day on which we signed the Declaration of Independence, thereby hazarding our lives and fortunes, I am convinced of the universal satisfaction of the people with the revolution and its grand principles.”
The Perfect Coffee Table Book for Next Year’s Celebration
I asked Glenn, “Imagine if my book was on every coffee table in America, would it bring us together on the 4th of July and the rest of the year?”

I suspect it would!
I’ve given talks about the grandfather of our nation before both Republicans, Democrats and Independents, and they all like Franklin. He is beloved by all Americans and foreigners alike, no matter one’s politics, race, sex, religion or profession.
As Ken Burns, America’s favorite documentarian, said this about Franklin: “Know him, know us!” He added, “He is America’s greatest diplomat.”
Of all our founders, Ben Franklin can bring us together as we enter the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding.
No matter what statement I quote from Franklin, almost everyone in the audience nods in agreement. For example, Franklin stated:
“The system of America is commerce with all and war with none.”
Everyone applauds.
Or how about this one:
“A virtuous and industrious people may be cheaply governed.”
I then ask, “Do we have cheap government?” Everyone -- Republican, Democrat or Independent -- agrees that government is expensive, even if we favor this or that policy. |

The Real Reason Trump Delayed His “Independence Day” Tariffs Did you know there is a secret government oversight group assigned to watch over the U.S. economy and markets? It was created 37 years ago by President Reagan. And it is the real reason President Trump delayed his Independence Day tariffs?
It sounds like a conspiracy theory, I know, but it’s not. You can judge for yourself by watching this interview. |

“A man of flesh, not marble”
Of all the founding fathers, Franklin is the most approachable, one you could sit down and have a beer with. He felt comfortable talking to either a janitor or the King of France, to a businessman or a scientist, to an athlete or a female model. He said, “I find I love company, a chat, a laugh, a glass, and even a song, and relish the grave observations and wise sentences of old men’s conversations.”
Michael Shermer, publisher of Skeptic magazine, says: “If I could go back in time and meet with any world historical figure even more than Aristotle, Galileo, Newton, Jefferson or Darwin, I would love nothing more than spending an evening dining and drinking with Benjamin Franklin, one of the most intellectually diverse thinkers and doers of all time, and who did as much as anyone to create the modern world.”
Here are some other great Franklin quotes that we can all agree on.
On today’s trade war, he said, “Commerce among nations as well as between private persons should be fair and equitable, by equivalent exchanges and mutual supplies. The taking unfair advantage of a neighbor’s necessities, tho’ attended with a temporary success, always breeds ill blood.”
On racism, he said this: “I visited the Negro School in Philadelphia and was on the whole much pleased, and from what I then saw, have conceived a higher opinion of the natural capacities of the black race, than I had ever before entertained. Their apprehension seems as quick, their memory as strong, and their docility in every respect equal to that of white children.”
Franklin was the first president of the Pennsylvania Society to abolish slavery.
On religion, who would not agree with this view: “Doubtlessly, faith has its use in the world; I do not desire to see it diminished, nor would I endeavor to lessen it in any man. But I wish it were more productive of good works than I have generally seen: I mean real good works, works of kindness, charity, mercy, and public spirit; not holiday-keeping, sermon-reading or hearing, performing church ceremonies, or making long prayers, filled with flatteries and compliments, despised even by wise men, and much less capable of pleasing the Deity.”
Amen! |

Big, beautiful bill creates rare market window The Trump administration’s “Big Beautiful Bill” is shaking the tech markets. While most traders are panicking, VantagePoint’s A.I. has just uncovered a rare window of opportunity.
That's why I've prepared this urgent briefing that you need to watch today.
We’re potentially days away from a major announcement from one of the world’s leading tech innovators. This could ignite the start of what we’re calling the “NeuralSphere Revolution” — a seismic shift that could unlock an entirely new wave of market opportunities.

My book is unique. It’s not a typical biography, but 80 short chapters on how you can apply Franklin’s life and works to today’s hot issues -- personal finance, investing, business, dealing with enemies, how to win friends and influence people, and what Franklin would think of war, trade, inflation, taxes, discrimination and even sex!
Here is my “Coffee Table” Proposal
So here’s my proposal: Buy my book and display it on the coffee table in your living room! My wife has done this, and it’s a perfect symbol of the greatness of America.
Encourage your friends and relatives to do the same, and see how visitors react to the book. I’m sure they will nod in agreement about that Ben Franklin is somebody we can all be proud of.
Buy My New Book and Get a Free Rare Franklin Stamp!
The U.S. Post Office has issued more Franklin stamps than any other, with the possible exception of George Washington. In 1847, the Post office issued its first paper stamp, the five-cent Franklin stamp. In 1947, it issued a stamp with both Washington and Franklin together, a true rarity.
Over the years I’ve collected a large number of Franklin stamps. See below inside “The Compleated Autiography.”

Each autographed copy of THE GREATEST AMERICAN will include a rare Franklin stamp, making my book a collectible!
All book orders received today will autographed and dated "4th of July, 2025." Order your copy today at a discount of $24 each ($19 for additional copies) at www.skousenbooks.com. I autograph every copy, will include a rare Franklin stamp with each book, and will be dated "4th of July 2025." All books are mailed free of charge inside the United States.

Economist Dan Mitchell Corrects Views of President Trump on Tariffs By Mark Skousen Editor, Forecasts & Strategies
Dan Mitchell is a former economist with the Heritage Foundation and now heads up the Freedom and Prosperity Foundation (www.freedomandprosperity.org).
In this report, he responds to President Trump's view that the U.S. is being "ripped off" by foreign nations when it comes to U.S. exports. It turns out that the U.S. also imposes many trade barriers that keep foreign goods from coming into the U.S.
According to his study on tariffs and other barriers, Singapore is the #1 country in the world in terms of low tariffs and trade barriers, while the US is anywhere from #13 to #69! See his report here: Mirror, Mirror, on the Wall, Is the United States the Most Free Trade of All? | International Liberty
Dan has also responded to Trump's recent attack on foreign trade. See below. |
