Construction spending dipped 0.2% in Jan. from the previous month and jumped 3.3% from a year earlier, according to Commerce Department data. The month-to-month spending decline was primarily attributed to a 0.7% pullback in multifamily homebuilding. High mortgage rates and potential new tariffs on lumber and other imports are contributing to the downturn.
