| | | | | Oct 19, 2020 | | | | | | Good evening, Since we all went into lockdown in March it has been pretty clear that the future of our charitable organisations is going to be pretty perilous. Much of the money they use for their services is provided by the wonderful and wacky fund-raising ideas they come up with every year. The problem is, most of these require the presence of people to make them work, from the humble bring and buy stall to lavish balls and fun runs. While many charities have come up with innovative ways to keep at least some money coming in, it is a mere trickle of cash compared to the usual flood. As we approach Remembrance Day, we would all usually be buying our poppies in support of the Royal British Legion’s annual appeal. But of course, this year, there will be no veterans and volunteers on our high streets and in our supermarkets to sell them. We cannot let our veterans down at a time when they need us more than ever. So this year, make sure you log on to www.rbl.org.uk/poppyappeal and leave a donation. I would like to ask if those of you who do not yet subscribe to www.lep.co.uk would consider taking out a digital subscription. By doing so, you are supporting local, community journalism and helping to ensure that it survives and thrives. A subscription gives you unlimited access to the site, for all the news and sport you need - and more. And thank you. Gillian Parkinson Editor | |
