'You can still call me coach:' Incoming mayor Sid Edwards discusses the next steps

Looking forward: On Saturday night, Sid Edwards upset two-term incumbent Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome in Baton Rouge's mayoral runoff — electing the first Republican to the office in 24 years.

And though the campaign is now in the rearview of the mayor-president-elect, there's not much time for a breather.

Set to be sworn into office on Jan. 2, Edwards has shifted focus ahead, anticipating an announcement in the coming days of who will be involved in his transition team. Read the full story. 


'A rising tide:' A $12 billion artificial intelligence data center that will create “several hundred” permanent jobs is coming to West Feliciana Parish, according to Parish President Kenny Havard. 

“This is life-changing for the region,” Havard said. “A rising tide lifts all boats.” Read more about the planned data center. 


A look at the shrimping industry: The commercial fishing industry in lower Plaquemines Parish, which has long opposed the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion, is breathing a sigh of relief after Gov. Jeff Landry expressed his opposition to the project.

On shrimping docks in Buras this week, shrimpers lamented the gradual loss of their industry over the last generation, in a business that is often passed through generations. This project, they believe, will be their deathblow. Read the full story.
