BY MATTHEW ALBRIGHT | Staff writer A controversial Louisiana gun bill was set to allow people to carry concealed firearms without permits. But in the wake of a school massacre in Texas and a shooting at a hospital in Tulsa, legislators voted to scale the bill back. Instead, it would now allow school resource officers to designate teachers and school staff who can carry concealed guns. Here's how it would work. Drew Acy died in 1984 when his Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity house burned down at Nicholls State University. Without a home, the chapter disbanded. But PKA returned to campus a few years ago, and that spurred Acy's fraternity brothers to find some way to remember him. After years of fundraising, they have endowed a scholarship for Drew's alma mater, St. Amant High, in his name. Jay Johnson might be LSU's baseball coach, but football is in his blood. Johnson's father was a highly successful football coach, and Johnson says "All I wanted to do was be like my dad."
