Joe Watson, CPP, Retail, Foodservice & Wholesale SME / Produce Industry Veteran There is a disconnect between consumer perception and reality. This is not a new phenomenon, I recall during retail career having many conversations about price perceptions of consumers and how to message in a way which protected our company price strategy but also informed our customers of the value we were truly providing. The pandemic saw retailers pulling back on promotions and activity to drive traffic, because frankly they didn't need to. Three years after the pandemic began and it is a much different landscape, which inflation has impacted greatly. A return to a full promotion plan and extra activity will help with consumer perceptions but it will not be an overnight win as 54% of consumers believe there are fewer promotions and another 49% believe the discounts are not a great as before. ** Have another thought?
