Dog and cat registrations due before 1 November
Registrations are due before 1 November for all dogs over three months of age, and all cats over six months of age. It is the law to register and microchip your dog and cat, as well as sterilise your cat.
Registering your pets gives our Rangers a better chance of finding them if they run away or get lost. It also helps us to provide the right type and quantity of dog-related services and facilities. |

Dogs prohibited at Woodman Point Beach
As of 21 October 2020, dogs will no longer be allowed at one of the Woodman Point beaches following Council’s adoption of the Animal Management and Exercise Plan (AMEP).
The new prohibited area extends from Ammunition Jetty, heading south around the Woodman Point headland to where the dog beach begins at Jervoise Bay. Approximately 40 per cent of Cockburn’s coast remains accessible to dogs, including parts of C.Y. O’Connor Beach and Jervoise Bay Beach.
Why will dogs be prohibited? Shorebirds may be affected by loss of breeding, roosting and foraging habitat, increased predation and disturbance Any negative impacts to shorebirds will trigger referral of the area’s use as a dog beach to the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment for assessment. Breaches can result in civil or criminal penalties Dog attacks increase public safety issues, and the area is hard for emergency vehicles to access Dogs off-leash are incompatible with recreational activities at the Woodman Point Recreation Camp, and the State Government’s Woodman Point Regional Park Management Plan. |

New off-leash parks for dogs
Following Council's adoption of the Animal Management and Exercise Plan (AMEP), six large public opens spaces will become off-leash areas from 21 October 2020, when not in use by recognised sporting groups or by schools. These include: Allendale Park, Aubin Grove Reserve, Beeliar Reserve, Colorado Park, Goodchild Reserve and Santich Park. A further three open spaces will become off-leash areas in 2021 as part of phase two, including Enright Reserve, Len Packham Reserve and Success Reserve.
Two dog parks are also proposed for construction at Radonich Park (Beeliar) and Macfaull Park (Spearwood). We will let you know when these spaces are ready for use. |

Dog obedience courses starting 25 October
Does your dog need to be better behaved or more agile? Sign up to one of our six-week dog obedience courses, starting Sunday 25 October to Sunday 29 November. All courses are run by experienced dog trainer, Dave Metcalf from Agile Dogs. How has the COVID-19 lockdown affected your body and mind?
Researchers at The University of Notre Australia are inviting Western Australians over the age of 18 year to complete an online survey to provide insights on how the COVID-19 lockdown impacted on their “body and mind”.
The outcomes of the study will help inform development and delivery of health promotional activities at state and local government level should WA be impacted by a second wave of the virus or similar emergency. This state government funded survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. |
