5 years after the Paris Agreement, the fight is not over On December 12th, 2015, after COP21, the signatory countries to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) reached a historic agreement. For the first time, the role of oceans and marine ecosystems is included in climate negotiations. However, 5 years later, the progress and prospects are not equal to the signatories ambitions. The Ocean and Climate Platform (OCP) alarms on the urgent need of the adaptation to sea-level rise. |

Scrubbers: less pollution in the air, more pollution in the sea The scrubber is a device installed in chimneys that filters engine exhaust fumes. Today, several studies show the harmful consequences of the use of scrubbers on marine environment. Surfrider Europe takes a stand against this tool used by shipowners to keep using heavy fuel oil. |

Senegal joins the Surfrider family On the 21st of November, the official launch of Surfrider Foundation Senegal took place in Dakar. This new international entity joins the different organizations such as Argentina, Australia, Europe, Japan and United States of America. In order to animate this special day, volunteers had panned an Ocean Initiative, a presentation of their actions and a concert. Since that day, they have participated in waste collection over the bay of Hann, collecting an unbelievable amount of waste wherein 77% of plastic. The plastic pollution is a real problem in Senegal and volunteers are really motivated to contribute to the global effort to put it an end. |

Raising awareness while waiting for Christmas Since the 1st of December, Berlin, Calvados, Gironde, Hamburg, Loire-Atlantique et Morbihan chapters released a virtual advent calendar on their social networks. This initiative enables them to present in more fully the Surfrider Foundation Europe's actions and more precisely their own actions. Since the beginning of the month, ideas of DIY, recipes, inspirations of sustainable gifts (...) are proposed. While waiting to meet again, virtual advent calendar is a good way for volunteers to keep contact with their community and to keep raising awareness even without being in the field. |
