The Barriers to Better Advising
|
|
Academic advising’s position within higher education is something of a paradox. Good advising is widely understood to be central to student success, and advisers are often some of the first professionals students meet on campus. Yet academic advising is also one of the more misunderstood and undersupported divisions on a campus. University advising systems are often inefficiently structured, leading to gaps and inconsistencies in how advising is conducted. The Future of Advising explores the increasingly important role that academic advising plays in the modern university, digs into the obstacles facing the profession, and highlights innovations and supports appearing on campuses and promoted by national organizations focused on student success. |
