Welcome the first day of fall, or spring, depending on your hemisphere! The September equinox marks the beginning of fall/autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, where it is known as the fall or autumnal equinox. In the Southern Hemisphere, it kicks off the spring season and is called the spring equinox.

But, did you know the equinox doesn't last a whole day but just a moment? It is the exact instant when the Sun crosses the celestial equator—the imaginary line in the sky above Earth’s equator. When this happens, the Earth's rotational axis is neither tilted away from nor toward the Sun.

Europe May End DST

The European Commission has recently issued a resolution to scrap Daylight Saving Time all across Europe. If it passes, countries in the European Union will have to decide to observe permanent summer time after Sunday, March 31, 2019, or switch back to standard time one last time on Sunday, October 27, 2019.
