55th SEETO Steering Committee Meeting held in Belgrade

BELGRADE (Serbia), November 14 - On 14th of December, at Crown Plaza Hotel in Belgrade the 55th and the last SEETO Steering Committee Meeting was held.

In their addresses, SEETO SC Chairman, Mr. Gjynejt Mustafa and Co-Chair, Mr. Alain Baron greeted the whole SEETO Cooperation as well as thanked SEETO Secretariat for work provided and support given to Regional Participants over the last 14 years.

SEETO General Manager Dejan Lasica expressed his gratitude for valuable support, involvement and constant contribution of SC Members to the process or regional transport cooperation.

Steering Committee adopted different administrative steps for the forthcoming period, since SEETO secretariat will be closed at the end of the year 2018. A deeper integration process within the region is now expected, which would continue a good practice established by SEETO.


19th WBIF Steering Committee Meeting held in Luxembourg

LUXEMBOURG (Luxembourg), December 6 - More than 100 participants from the European Commission (DG NEAR, DG MOVE), WBIF financial institutions (EIB, EBRD, CEB, KfW, WBG and AFD), Bilateral Donors (Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, and Sweden), the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), the Energy Community Secretariat (ECS), as well as the South East Europe Transport Observatory (SEETO) attended the 19th WBIF Steering Committee meeting in Luxembourg.

The meeting was hosted by the European Investment Bank and co-chaired by the European Commission and France as the current Bilateral Donor Co-chair. SEETO was represented by Mr. Nedim Begovic, Transport Planning Manager.

THE DANUBE REGION TRANSPORT DAYS 2018

LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), December 4-5 - The conference took place in Best Western Premier Hotel SLON in the centre of Ljubljana on 4th and 5th of December. The 4th International stakeholder conference entitled “The Danube Region Transport Days 2018” brought together transport community to exchange and share their experiences, results and ideas on all aspects of transport in the Danube macro-region. Moreover the aim was to strengthen cooperation between transport stakeholders in the Danube macro-region in order to jointly address the challenges associated with implementation of existing transport policy activities.

SEETO secretariat was represented by Mr. Dejan Lasica, SEETO General Manager, who gave presentation about Indicative TEN-T Corridors for the South-East Europe and Ms. Liljana Cela, who presented SEETO Region Road Safety Strategy Survey.

Serbia signs 250 mln euro motorway deal with Turkey's Tasyapi



BELGRADE (Serbia), December 20 - Serbia signed a 250 million euro ($285.8 million) commercial contract for the construction of the first section of a motorway connecting Belgrade to Bosnia's capital Sarajevo with Turkish civil engineering company Tasyapi, the Serbian infrastructure ministry said.

The financial agreement for the Sremska Raca- Kuzmin section of the motorway will be signed with Tasyapi next year and construction works are expected to begin in 2020, the infrastructure ministry said in a statement.

Turkey's Cengiz signs 67 mln euro motorway construction deal in Bosnia




SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), November 12 - The government of Bosnia's Federation entity said it has signed a 67.4 million euro ($75.9 million) contract for the construction of a section of the pan-European Corridor Vc with Turkish company Cengiz Insaat.

The government will finance the project through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and a 11.03 million euro grant. The project includes the construction of the Zenica North tollbooth as well as a link connecting the Vc corridor to the town of Zenica and the M-17 motorway.

EIB lending Serbia 100 mln euro for inland waterway improvements

BELGRADE (Serbia), November 23 - The European Investment Bank (EIB) has agreed to provide a 100 million euro ($113.5 million) loan to Serbia to improve navigation on the inland waterways along the Danube and Sava rivers, the lender said.

The project will improve services to the local and regional industries as well as the agricultural sector, support economic growth and create jobs, enhancing connections between European countries, the EIB said in a statement

EU grants additional 17.2 mln euro to co-finance railway project in Kosovo - EBRD

PRISTINA (Kosovo), December 4 – The European Union is providing an additional grant of 17.2 million euro ($19.5 million) to co-finance a project funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for upgrading Kosovo’s only international rail link, the bank said.

The project, running southwards to the border with Macedonia and northwards to the border with Serbia, will improve the connection between Kosovo’s railway network and the wider European network through European transport Corridor VIII and Corridor X.

EU grants 68.6 mln euro to EBRD-financed railway project in Macedonia


SKOPJE (Macedonia), December 14 – The European Union is providing a grant of 68.6 million euro ($78 million) to back a project financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the modernisation of Macedonia’s railway infrastructure, the bank said.

The EU grant, extended through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), will be used to co-finance the construction of approximately 34 km of the rail network in Macedonia, the EBRD said in a press release following the signing of the grant agreement in Skopje.

Norway grants 1.4 mln euro to back maritime industry in Albania

 


TIRANA (Albania), November 16 – Albania’s infrastructure ministry said it has received a 1.4 million euro ($1.6 million) grant from the Norwegian government in support of a project for the development of the country’s maritime sector. 

The maritime industry development project is implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in cooperation with the Albania’s infrastructure ministry, the ministry said in a press release, following the presentation of the project in Tirana.

EIB lending 40 mln euro to Montenegro for road upgrades

 


PODGORICA (Montenegro), November 29 – The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a 40 million euro ($45.4 million) loan deal with Montenegro's government for the rehabilitation and upgrading of five main roads, the lender said. The project aims to improve road conditions and safety, thereby facilitating trade and regional integration, the EIB said in a statement.
