On June 2, Grades of Green wrapped up the school year with a burst of green energy by sprouting and sprucing up La Tijera! GATE students from La Tijera Elementary rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty to help revitalize their school garden and transformed it to thriving! With support from our incredible partners, the LA Kings and Dr. Simi USA, students were guided through every step of the gardening process. Volunteers from both organizations were paired with student groups as they restored existing garden beds, planted native plants, and crafted seed “life bombs," a fun and eco-friendly mix of clay, potting soil, and native seeds. Once molded, students tossed their handmade life bombs into newly refreshed planters, adding a literal splash of green to the space. The day was filled with teamwork, learning, and laughter - capped off with refreshing paletas for all. More than just a gardening day, this event was a powerful reminder of what can happen when schools and community partners come together to greenify campuses and grow a healthier future.
