Seats at the Table expands public television broadcasts & announces webinar

Happy to share some wonderful news regarding our film Seats at the Table. This is the film portrait of Andrew Kaufman’s University of Virginia Books Behind Bars class which brings together university students with residents of a juvenile correctional center through the study of Russian literature. Our ultimate hope/mission of this project is to inspire replication of Kaufman’s brilliant educational model so that more of our youth will benefit from this life-changing experience. And we believe that the presentation of Seats at the Table distributed by American Public Television to U.S. public television stations across the country will be the catalyst for creating true and positive impact.
PBS’s World Channel will be providing the film to its 172-member public tv stations across the country for their airing of the film on October 5th and 6th. These stations cover well over 70% of the U.S. population.

A second piece of wonderful news is that we are delighted to be hosting a webinar with WTTW - Chicago PBS on October 9th at 5pm EST, following a screening of Seats at the Table. It will be moderated by New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie and include myself, Andy Kaufman, former UVa student Kelsey Youngman and former resident Bradley Brewer. As someone who has been involved with this project since first observing the Books Behind Bars class in 2014, I am so looking forward to hearing the two classmates’ reflections on what this inspiring educational experience meant to them and how it affected their lives.
