Sean Payton says farewell

with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editor

Good morning. It was a wild news day yesterday. Here are some of the highlights.

Saints coach steps down

Sean Payton, who turned the New Orleans Saints from a pariah to a powerhouse over a 16-year tenure, shocked fans Tuesday when he announced he was stepping down.

Our sports staff is all over it. You can watch video of his outgoing press conference, learn what might be next for Payton, see his adorable "Ted Lasso moment" and check out reaction from players and other prominent people. You can bet we'll have more on what this means for the Saints later today.

Out after almost 50 years

After almost half a century behind bars for murder, Gloria Williams walked out free on Tuesday after the state board of pardons granted her clemency.

This story walks through all the powerful emotions behind the freeing of Louisiana's longest-serving female prisoner: Her own; those of the family who grew up while she was behind bars; and those of the family of the man she was convicted of helping kill.
