Poll: Economists trim recession odds, rate-cut forecasts Economists have lifted U.S. growth forecasts and foresee a 29% chance of a recession in the coming year, down from 39% in January, according to a Wall Street Journal poll. With recent inflation reports coming in hotter than expected, the economists have also reduced expectations for interest-rate cuts. "We think that the American economy has entered a virtuous cycle where strong productivity results in growth above the long-term trend, inflation between 2% and 2.5%, and an unemployment rate between 3.5% and 4%," RSM U.S. Chief Economist Joe Brusuelas says.
