Around 1 in 5 of British workers are exposed to noise that could damage hearing. The Workplace Health Expert Committee (WHEC) will be presenting their latest findings in a seminar on Thursday 28September 2023, 1.00pm - 2.00pm. As part of HSE's Science Review 2023, a video to highlight HSE's research into noise and vibrations emissions in battery and traditionally powered hand-held power tools was published. Watch the video on YouTube You can also read the following associated articles from HSE's Annual Science Review 2023: RR1193: Static concrete mixer cleaning establishing alternative methods for control of harmful noise and hand-arm vibration exposures Cleaning static concrete mixers can involve workers entering the mixer with hand-held power tools. Workers are exposed to health and safety risks, such as developing Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome, exposure to noise and entry into the confined space of the mixer. HSE scientists looked at reducing these risks. This research has informed the "Guide to Cleaning Concrete Pan Mixers" published in 2021 by the Mineral Products Association where all the relevant health and safety risks are described. This equipment has the potential for release of flammable material followed by an explosion unless effective control measures are in place.A mathematical model for flashing liquid has been developed.
