South Carolinians file 46,747 unemployment claims in week

The number of unemployment claims for the week ending May 2 dropped by 18,412 from the previous week, according to the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce. DEW has received 453,636 claims in the last 7 weeks.

Spartanburg Chamber composes revitalization task force

The Spartanburg Area Chamber announced a Bringing Back the Burg Business Recovery Task Force today, with representation from local government, business, nonprofit and community development leaders.

Marine recruits arrive at The Citadel for observation

Roughly 300 Marine Corps recruits arrived at the military college this week for two weeks of observation before heading to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island near Beaufort. The arrangement between the Marines and The Citadel allows the former to observe recruits and detect possible cases of COVID-19 prior to them entering the Parris Island base.

New site at USC to collect plasma donations

The site, a collaboration with The Blood Connection, is the first stationary donation site for convalescent plasma in the Midlands. Convalescent plasma contains antibodies which may help patients fight COVID-19.

Marriage licenses now available online

Richland County residents can apply for and pay for marriage licenses online after a new measure was adopted by the county this week in response to COVID-19 health concerns. Marriage licenses will be mailed.
