Economic recovery loan program to assist 15 states

The SOAR Fund aims to help small businesses and historically underbanked organizations throughout the South. An application portal, scheduled to open in April, will offer loans of up to $100,000.

Agribusiness entrepreneurs can apply for ACRE program

The S.C. Department of Agriculture initiative, in its third year, has awarded nearly $500,000 to 35 agribusiness entrepreneurs. Applicants must have a business plan and a product prototype or sales history.

Wando Welch Terminal welcomes 2 more cranes

The S.C. Ports Authority is commissioning two more cranes that arrived at the terminal last week. That brings the terminal’s total to 13, with two more expected by the end of the year.

Century Aluminum rebuilds with 3-year power agreement

After the Mount Holly aluminum smelter warned it would have to close if Santee Cooper couldn’t offer better power rates, the two have come to an agreement on a three-year contract that begins April 1. The company's president called the agreement a “good balance” for the both parties.

USDA invests $2.8M in S.C. distance learning, telemedicine

As part of a U.S. Department of Agriculture $24.3 million COVID-19 relief package extended to rural areas across the country, two Palmetto State school systems, a college and medical center will expand their telemedicine and distance learning platforms.
