Senate passes nonprofit unemployment reimbursement bill A bill co-sponsored by Sen. Tim Scott that allows nonprofits to pay states only 50% of unemployment costs upfront was passed unanimously in the U.S. Senate July 2. The bipartisan bill, called the Protecting Nonprofits from Catastrophic Cash Flow Strain Act also was sponsored by Sens. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio; Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; and Ron Wyden, D-Ore. $79 million in grants open to Greenville businesses Greenville County opened the door to $70 million in stimulus funding for Greenville businesses on July 6. Minority small businesses and public health providers also can apply for grants from respective $5 million and $4 million funding pools. Grants from the $70 million small business fund will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible applicants. |
