Hide your trash: Beware of Baboons In the U.S., millions of residents are familiar with how troublesome raccoons can be. They’re opportunistic foragers that break into trash cans, steal food and cause mischief wherever they go. But in South Africa, that role is filled by baboons — who live in the hills just outside residential areas. They have been bothering homeowners for years now, and one particular baboon has even caused enough trouble for authorities to relocate him. The baboon, nicknamed Kataza, has started showing signs of depression after being isolated from his pack. But despite his bad reputation, the people of Cape Town have started the #bringbackKataza hashtag in the hopes of reuniting him with his friends.
