There was a huge public turnout at Newcastle's Civic Park on Friday to protest against government inaction on climate change.
Children, supported by their parents, grandparents and workers of all ages, joined the global movement led by young people.

Firefighter and brother jailed over ferocious Kurri blaze

Joshua and Craig Lambkin were jailed on Friday over four deliberately lit bushfires that swept through parts of the Hunter region in 2017.
A district court judge noted that text messages between the brothers showed they had purposely picked days when the mercury soared above 40 degrees.
