Adopting a Shelter Cat or Kitten

By VeronicaHB

A young tortiseshell kitten playing with a toy.I strongly recommend that anyone who is wanting to add a kitten or cat to their life, do so by adopting one from a shelter or rescue organization. I have done this often and have found the following tips helpful when bringing home a cat or kitten from a shelter.

Dr. Elsey's Litter for Cats that Won't Use Litter Box
We were thrilled when we got our adorable 1 year old male cat from an adoption center. We figured a lot of the first year problems would have been resolved. Wrong! He would use the cat box sporadically. We took him to the vet who said that there are no medical issues.
Use a Ballpoint Pen as Dog Marker
I have found that the clickers that most people use are too loud. I like the soft sound of a ball point pen retracting instead.

Today's Questions
Finch Laid an Egg
Two weeks ago I got a male zebra finch to pair with my female. The male immediately started doing his breeding dance. A few days after that my female laid one egg and none since. I've been keeping an eye on her checking every day for signs of her being egg bound so far there are zero. The egg's most likely a dud, but each finch takes turns sitting on the egg so maybe the egg is not a dud. Should I be worrying that my female only laid one egg? Is there a reason it's only one?

Finches Laid Eggs in Their Food
The finches laid eggs in their food, what do I do? There are 3 eggs in there, do I move the dish? Do I add anything so they can cover them? Do I just leave them alone and see what happens?
Having Someone Care for Cats While You Are Gone
I have 2 cats that are sisters. I'm going on vacation for 7 days and have hired someone to come in daily to scoop litter, check their food and water, and try to play with them. My question is, will they be OK? I'm worrying so much I'm ready to cancel my vacation and it is my and my husband's 15th wedding anniversary trip.
Dog Peeing in the House
I have a four-year-old male blue Staff. And lately, probably for the back past eight months, I am struggling with the times I have to clean up around my house even though he has a dog flap where he can go in and out at will.
