Salt in retreat: The wedge of salt water moving up the Mississippi River has receded since the last measurement, the second piece of good news we've gotten on the threat to the New Orleans area's drinking water in the last several days. Ben Myers has the latest on what it means for the region. Scalise's support: U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, of Jefferson, is running against House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan to be the next Speaker of the House. One might think he'd have the support of his fellow Louisiana representatives, but that may not be the case. Mark Ballard has the story. Bidding farewell to Batiste: Renowned New Orleans drummer Russell Batiste Jr., who died Sept. 30 at age 57, was laid to rest Tuesday in a purple and gold casket emblazoned with the Purple Knight logo, befitting a proud St. Augustine High School graduate and percussionist.
